I would like to take this opportunity of writing to your paper to express our thanks for the many acts of kindness and support we experienced when our campervan and a truck collided on the Awanui Straight, Monday February 23.
To the people who came to ourassistance that day, who are unknown to us, we would like to say thank you.
In particular there are those whose help and invaluable assistance we would both like to mention.
Senior Constable Dave Ratapu and Constable Kelly Bates, Kaitaia police, spent considerable time with us, transporting us to the hospital and supporting us while there. Constable Kelly Bates located and drove us to a motel, and stayed to make sure we had everything we needed.
To these two people, who we think went those extra yards on our behalf, we are very grateful.
To say "Thank you" at a time like this does seem inadequate, but we say so sincerely to all those who helped us that day. It was indeed sir: 'A 'miracle' on the Straight'.
