Going backwards
I have just read in your paper about a new ambulance that is now off the road after an incident in Kerikeri. Why have we progressed so far backwards?
Many years ago (when I got my licence) the law stated that you could move to the centre of the road to make a right turn, as long as you were in a 30km/h zone. Once you were outside of that zone (60-100 km/h) you must pull to the left and determine that it is safe to make your right turn.
The powers that be have finally rescinded the stupid left turn give way law, now they must make another common sense change, back to the original right turn law on the open road.
I see it so many times, out on the open speed limit, you come across some stupid person, 'parked' in the middle of the road, waiting to turn right, forcing all following traffic to also come to a standstill or to take evasive action, towards the unsealed shoulder and the drain ... dah!
