Dear Jenny Petera
I was very sorry to read about your burglaries. I love coming to Birdie's for my treat of snapper and salad.
This is a very stressful and on-going problem that our hard-working citizens have to endure. In today's world some parents only want the best for their teenagers, and then there are the parents who don't care what happens to their teenagers, as drugs and alcohol are more important to them. Because of this the wayward teenager's survival instincts kick in, starvation being the No 1 priority and addictions caused by copying their parents, which leads them into a life of crime. They are then lost to the justice system.
I often think how wonderful it would be if there was an open building for the neglected youth within our community, a secure place for them to go, offering good people, positive advice, a meal or kitchen where they can make a sandwich. There is nothing for our youth in Kaitaia. Boredom sets in and the hungry teenager becomes a criminal.
Mayor John Carter, Hone Harawira, open up some doors, help our neglected youth. They do have a lot of hidden talents and crafts that they could exhibit and contribute to our Kaitaia community. Too many people turning their backs. Actions speak louder than words.
