Driving around the Mid North I see the price of fuel on most of the service stations. Fuel prices are on my mind as I owned the Rawene Service Station for around 30 years.
I hear that Z now owns Caltex which should be good for the people. Better prices through volume sold, right? Last week in Kaikohe, where there is a Z Service Station and a Caltex Service Station, fuel was being sold, at the least, 7 cents higher than Waitangi, Kerikeri or Kawakawa.
When I questioned the manager of Caltex he said that price is driven by the PWC head office. People of the Mid North need to question why one of the lowest social demographic areas in the mid north is getting higher fuel prices than the more affluent areas. Kaikohe is no further away from Marsden Point than Waitangi or Kerikeri.
Is it because we do not complain? I guess we need to complain more to be treated fairly, and this appears to be price gouging. People speak up! Tell Z and Caltex that overpriced fuel is not acceptable. Write or speak to your MP about overpriced fuel. If Kerikeri, Waitangi and Kawakawa get cheap fuel why can't we?
