Vandalism of an ancient tree
This letter is written to express dismay and disgust on seeing the vandalism inflicted on an ancient tree at St Saviour's Anglican Church.
This tree, the oldest of its kind in New Zealand, was planted by missionary William Puckey 170 years ago.
It is the last living link with the two missionary families.
Across New Zealand, responsible groups are promoting the planting of trees for ecological and aesthetic reasons. These groups include our younger generation.
