Cricket too

The Far North Cricket Association would like to voice their wholehearted support for the proposed Te Hiku Sports Hub.

Our organisation is slowly regenerating after being in recess for several years, and we now boast three junior zones (Kaitaia, Taipa and BOI) catering for approximately 80-100 children, and the establishment of a Far North senior men's competition between five teams from Kaitaia, Mangonui, Kaikohe, Kerikeri and Paihia. We have also just completed a season of senior men's rep matches vs a Whangarei Invitational XI.

All these competition games have been played at local schools or at grounds primarily catering for other codes.

The FNCA is collaborating with the Te Hiku Sports Hub as we work towards a multi-purpose sports facility that would cater not only for our sport but also house many other codes who, like us, do not have a permanent home ground, e.g. athletics, football, league etc. With top-class sports grounds the Hub will have the ability to host representative matches, inter-district meets and events, thus bringing more visitors to our town.

With the inclusion of the aquatic centre, the Hub would provide a venue for the whole community, young and old, to participate in sport and recreation in one central location. Surely this is a positive step towards a brighter future.
