Can it be much simpler, I wonder, to reduce pollution by sorting your rubbish and creating recycling jobs for others?
I have seven large bags into which I deposit the appropriate articles for the recycle centre.
At the end of the road every week I seemountains of yellow bags on the side of SH1, which appear to contain everything, and invariably I drive past the stench of locals burning their rubbish. What gets to me is the abject laziness and the careless attitude toward the state of the environment.
Too bad if it's degraded for the future generations? Wake up. Then there is the recycle centre itself.
A large, colourful and easy-to-follow sign would be nice, indicating the numbers and items required for recycling, rather than be grumped at for trying to deposit plastic containers that have a number on the back and are obviously recyclable.
Isn't it enough just knowing you are doing your bit for this once perfect planet? We have made a rubbish tip out of paradise.
Smarten up your ideas locals, teach the next generation that Papatuanuku is worth nurturing, every day.
