Real maturity

I was so impressed by the article on Ezekiel (Living in Aotearoa not so bad, August 18), and his comments regarding his experiences at the UNITY conference in Washington.

To admit to leaving New Zealand with preconceived ideas and changing his mind when faced with some facts shows real maturity, and no small amount of courage.

As you put it Ezekiel, in general terms, " Maori youth and youth in general are well off in this country".

A sharp contrast to Anahera Herbert-Graves' recent chip on the shoulder article where she lashed out at a native American visitor, who simply pointed some inconvenient truths. It seems Ezekiel has discovered this for himself.

Disadvantage certainly exists in New Zealand, but as with most things in life, it is all relative.
