Regarding your reconstituted puzzle page (letters, September 20). While "elderly men at cafes" might be an issue ("sharing the challenge of completing crossword..."), as a woman nudging 70, I have to tell you the recent changes in the puzzle page puzzles me!
For as long asI can recall, Tuesday and Thursday have been my special days - the Northland Age arrives by post, and I always anticipate one or even two hours of brain challenge on this page.
But no more; Tuesday is a heart-breaker issue , leaving me wondering why I even get out of bed.
The world-class basic crossword has been replaced by something called The NZ Crossword.
The content is more about Kiwi-isms than vocabulary challenges (and half way down the page you have the audacity to print upside down, as a physical challenge to rotate the page) all the answers.
Come on matey, in your rush to modernise the twice-weekly rag I'm betting there is a corporate guy (or gal) seduced by some sort of puzzle package offering.
"Take this one and we'll throw in two freebees".
The wrong people are making decisions here for business rather than customer satisfaction reasons.
