The group of students from Te Kura Kaupapa o Kaikohe who trailled out to make their respective codes for the upcoming annual area schools sporting tournament in Whanganui. Names in article.

A number of Te Kura Kaupapa o Kaikohe students will proudly represent Northland teams competing for various titles at the national area schools tournament next month.

Those selected include Vernicia Kelleher, who will compete in ki-o-rahi, netball, basketball and rugby; Imrie Dunn, netball and basketball; Kona-Ariki Hippolite, ki-o-rahi, netball, basketball and rugby; Rahipere Tau-Kata and Rua Clarke, both rugby; Te Morehu Hippolite, volleyball, ki-o-kahi, rugby and basketball; Hamana Rakena, rugby; Ngapuhi Simeon, rugby and ki-o-kahi; and Aparahama Cooper, ki-o-rahi, basketball and volleyball.

All are shown sitting in the front row of the accompanying image in the order given above, with Nau Epiha, the kura's principal/ kaumatua, sitting in the middle.

Other students from the kura shown above who also competed in the trials are from back left, Raymond Rakete, James Tau, Kingi Rakete-Tane, Rapata Tau, Osaiasi Tau-Kata, Dante Kelleher, Rehia Nikora-Rameka, Henare Karepe, Charmaine Clarke, Arumia Lawrence, (middle) Desiree Harvey-Edmonds, Destiny Tau-Whiu, Dashae Kelleher, Braden Marsh, Grant Tahere, Rangiwhenua Te Haara-Hohepa, Wiremu Herewini Hona, Tu Kaha Cooper, Shaun Wright, Brittany Kelleher and Raiha Akuhata.

The New Zealand Area Schools Association 2015 Sports Tournament which takes place in Whanganui from July 6-9 will see various titles up for grabs in rugby, netball, football, golf, ki-o-rahi, basketball, volleyball and girls rugby sevens.

The Kaikohe students are now on a mission to fundraise towards the costs involved in attending the tournament (estimated at $500 per student). Anyone willing to help the cause was invited to contact the kura at 401-2726.
