Earlier this month, the Year 7/8 girls of the Kaitaia Intermediate School netball team celebrated a memorable season contested at home and away by dining out in style for lunch at local restaurant, the Beachcomber.
The occasion marked the end of a campaign fought on two fronts this winter and which included securing domestic honours by taking out the Mangonui Netball Centre's Year 7/8 title, as well as competing at the annual Aims Games in Tauranga in September where the girls eventually placed 78th out of over 100 teams in their division.
KIS teacher Louise Rogers helped Shaye Petricevich coach both sides. She said the trip to Tauranga saw a fantastic time had by all, adding that the side did a bit more sightseeing this time around, and also enjoyed supporting other Far North counterparts at the event, including Pukemiro School in the netball, and Pamapuria in the hockey.
"Really good bunch of kids," Rogers said, admitting the girls did have the potential to drive her barmy at times. On behalf of the team, she also thanked various sponsors and parents for their support.
