Angler numbers were well down and only a few fish ended up at the weigh station at the last Doubtless Bay Line and Rod Fishing Club contest for March, which proved another chance for the family club's junior members to shine.
The two-day event on March 19-20 included the Richard Fox Memorial trophy up for grabs on the Saturday. Kurt Nash easily beat father Luke's 1.22kg snapper with a 1.72kg fish of his own before cruising to head the kahawai section of the Reel Rods tournament held at Matai Bay by weighing in a decent 2.2kg fish.
Younger brother Carter was immensely proud of his 0.6kg kahawai, while consistent achiever Jessica Scott landed a 4.9kg snapper to take out the overall trophy.
Neill Bainbridge had the only fish landed by boat and weighed on the day, a 1.56kg snapper.
The local fishers fared little better the following day, where president Luke Macdonald landed a 5.34 snapper to claim the Dive Shed Trophy and Kaitlin Russell topped the juniors' section with a 2.44kg fish.
