The Kaitaia dojo of the Kiaido Ryu Martial Arts Club is preparing to launch an exciting new era this year following the appointment of a new head instructor.
Morgan Scott will take over the reins at the dojo this year and said he he was really excited about thefuture potential of the club.
With 25 years experience in the martial arts, including 10 years in Korea training with several martial arts factions there, the Kaitaia College teacher was looking forward to sharing his knowledge, planning to combine fresh ideas with his passion for teaching.
"A big focus for me is ensuring that my class structures and lesson planning give all my students the opportunity to develop high levels of skill and make the best possible progress on their martial arts journey," said Scott.
He will replace departing dai sempai Rose Dermer who has decided to focus her energies on power lifting, a sport in which she has already recorded significant success.
She was wished well for her future endeavours by the head of the national KRMAC body, grandmaster Lance Strong who said the ongoing progression made by the Kaitaia dojo over the past 10 years with Rose at the helm had been inspirational.
"Rose has made a big contribution to the establishment and development of Kiaido Ryu over many years. She is also an energetic part of the local community and also participates in other activities with that same enthusiasm. We know that with her 'can-do' approach she will succeed at whatever she applies herself to," he said.
He said he had every faith that Scott as a highly qualified instructor would carry on Rose's good work.
