Kaeo-born Jamie Porter's recent good form in the ring has continued by winning the Queensland Cruiserweight boxing title on the Gold Coast last Wednesday.
Father Rusty Porter - the Kaeo Boxing Club founder and head instructor - noted his 32-year-old son fought and beat Mick King by TKO in the seventh round of an eight-round fight.
With both fighters needing come in at 91.7kg as part of the cruiserweight criteria, Rusty noted Jamie - representing Heartbreak Gym - put King down in the 3rd round, and despite suffering a cut above one eye, had him on the canvas again in the 7th before finishing the job off later in that same round via a technical knockout.
The result put Jamie into 7th place on the Australian cruiserweight rankings, with the plan being to make his way up to qualify for a crack at the national title. His next fight is scheduled for October.
"He's fighting good, been working hard on his boxing, settled down. Always had a passion for boxing, now he's getting stuck in, doing what he loves," said Rusty.
