The self-styled 'Crusty ol' Men' beat the 'Hotties' during the rugged weather which prevailed over the weekend and saw no fish at all weighed in by the ladies' fraternity in the Doubtless Bay Line and Rod Club's annual battle of the sexes.
Club president Luke MacDonald and John Buckley, however, braved the elements to haul in a couple of beauties, but they were the only fish weighed in for the Men vs Women fishing comp. A spokesman from the event noted dryly that the ladies have suggested a re-match take place once the weather improves.
The club's junior anglers were well represented with Nate and Cody Macdonald each weighing in a decent sized jack mackerel. Results were, Luke Macdonald 11.15kg snapper, John Buckley 6.25kg snapper (both caught from shore), Cody Macdonald 0.40kg jack mackerel, and Nate Macdonald 0.45kg jack mackerel (the two lads using koheru as bait fish).
The club's next event is the Knuckle Point trophy on August 22-23 in which two fish may be weighed in. For more information about the family-orientated club and its activities, contact Luke Macdonald (021) 111-5683.
