The Kahawai Bonanza hosted by the 90 Mile Beach Surfcasting Club attracted a field of 107 adult anglers and 34 juniors who eventually weighed in 118 fish.
The winner of the major prize of $1000 for average weight was Owen Jackson with a 1.3494kg fish. Other top placegetters were, seniors: Rowland Leaf 2.3kg ($500), Lancia Valach 2.24kg ($300), Todd Nattrass 2.116kg ($200), Moira Rogers 1.990kg, Ray Langford 1.949kg; juniors: Samantha Perry 1.930kg, Hayden Parlour 1.669kg , and Henderson Parlour 1.569kg.
It was the fourth running of the annual surfcasting event spokesman Steve Maisey said. He added most of the fish were caught out east with the west coast being pretty rough and with a chill southerly blowing, not the most hospitable of environments on the day.
He said the juniors in particular were rewarded with some "very cool" sponsored prizes and there was a plethora of spot prizes up for grabs, providing some consolation to those who didn't catch any fish.
Following the weigh in, an auction was held with the proceeds going towards the building of clubrooms.
