Haami Hita (Ahipara, left) and Joe Pol (Otaua) are all set for their shot at fame on Saturday.

Haami Hita and Joe Pol aren't short on talent, or confidence that they will make a name for themselves with Norty North Movement in Wellington this weekend.

Two of an ensemble of artists who deliver "real hip hop, with touches of soul, reggae and R&B, and sharing the experience of growing up in rural communities from Whangarei to Ahipara", Norty North Movement won the chance to perform for a Def Jam scout in Wellington on Saturday at a heat in Auckland, Haami and Joe saying they have what it takes to launch a career that might well include Friday night billings in Las Vegas.

They performed individually in Auckland, each with the other's backing, the organisers suggesting they join forces and Joe saying they had a clear point of difference.

"The others were rapping like Americans," he said, "but we show our culture respect. We tell people who we are."

It would be "One song one shot," he added, Put Your Hands Up already having attracted 50,000 views on Facebook.
