The Bowls Far North Centre national club pairs titles were sorted over a weekend in late November and a run-down of the four section winners is as follows.
In the junior sections for bowlers of 1-5 years' experience, Kyra Rapana and Kay McLean (Houhora/ Cooper's Beach) won the women's title, while David Haynes and Harry Harris won the men's. There were only two teams remaining after the first day's play was completed in the men's section, the other being Alan Bright and Clive Scahill (Coop). The possible final at Kaitaia Combined on the Sunday saw some excellent draw bowling from both teams but the Okaihau combination proved too consistent on the day, winning 18-11.
The remaining teams in the women's section were runners-up Joanne Milich and Linda Fowlie (Combined/ Opononi) who were narrowly beaten 19-17 in the final, and Shirley Marr and Barbara Scahill (Coop).
In the upper tier, the senior men's title was claimed by David Hood and Dave Williams (Kerikeri) who went into the second day with two lives, to beat 1-lifers Henare Wikaira and Donny Holmes (Kaikoke) in the final. It was a great display of draw bowls at 10-10 on the last end which forced an extra end to be played to find a champion, with Hood showing grace under pressure with his last shot to claim the title 11-10.
Other teams to make it through to the second day's play were Dan Dickison and Shaun Haynes (Okai), Peter Dorreen and Paul Huxtable (Comb), Cedric Campbell and Joe Hovell (Church).
