Kerry Hewitt joined a small and prestigious club when he speared an 84kg fish 12 miles off the Hokianga Harbour. The Napier man was on a fishing trip with his father and friends earlier this month when he got his prize catch. To pull off the feat, the men towed lures through the water while Hewitt sat on the back of the boat Sea Me Do with his gear, waiting for the opportune moment to jump into the sea where he was then given "a couple of seconds" to pull off his shot. At a depth of about 4m, he encountered a marlin which had been chasing the lures and pulled the trigger.
