Police recovered a BB Gun and a knife after reports of an "altercation" between students at Kamo High School in Whāngārei.

Police were initially investigating the incident where a high school student in Whangarei was said to have "shown" a firearm before the armed person left in a vehicle.

Police said the incident happened about 11.20am at Kamo High School, in Wilkinson Ave.

Police later said they located a student in possession of a BB Gun and a knife and are speaking to three young people.
