With hams, chickens, Christmas cakes and chocolates up for grabs the competition for the annual Christmas Tournament trophy at Cooper's Beach was fierce but played in good Christmas spirit.
A total of 42 club members participated in the domestic tournament on Thursday, December 11, where they were drawn into mixed pairs ("where possible") to play four games of eight ends on wins, ends, points.
Two games were played back-to-back before a pot luck lunch was enjoyed and followed by two more games. The top nine placegetters were, Trevor Smith, Carol Sell 4 wins, 21 ends, 51 points, 1 (e.g. 1st); Maureen Messenger, Dianne Osborne 4, 21, 39, 2; Nancy Page, Len Cooke 3, 20, 30, 3; Jack Hughes, Jean Piesse 3, 19, 39, 4; Glennis Ansley, Shirley Marr 3, 17, 28, 5; Eileen Pickard, Neill Mar 3, 16, 25, 6; Margaret Wildbore, John McSorley 2, 19, 34, 7; Norma Olsen, Stu Peterson 2 , 18, 24, 8; Alan Bright, Trish McLaren 2, 17, 29, 9.
The Ham and Turkey Trophy played for was made and donated by the late Kevin Hoult. Organisers expressed their thanks and appreciation to his wife Mary-Jane and sister-in-law Delphine Edwards for their generous sponsorship.
