Nominations are now open for the 2013-14 Far North Citizen Awards, which will once again recognise ordinary people who do extraordinary things in their communities.
The council presents the awards as an opportunity to celebrate the voluntary work that contributes to the well-being of residents throughout of the district, and helps to keep communities healthy. Up to 10 awards have been presented every year since they were introduced in 2001 to commemorate the International Year of the Volunteer. A total of 120 residents have been recognised to date.
Awards will be made to individuals who have made a considerable contribution to the well-being of the district and its citizens over a significant period of time, who have not received any form of payment or remuneration for their services, and who are living in the Far North at the time of nomination.
Nominations close on November, with Mayor John Carter to present the awards at a ceremony at the Council Chambers in Kaikohe on November 28. Nomination forms are available at district council service centres, and from the council's website (www.fndc.govt.nz).
