The Far North XI were pretty much blown off Cobham Oval by their Whangarei Invitational counterparts in the fourth and final leg of the inaugural City vs Country 40/40 series on Sunday afternoon.
Mangonui lost the toss and were sent in to bat by their city rivals, eventually only able to reach 86 all out after 18 overs in the final leg of the 40/40 series, with Sunday's game played in a 20-over format.
It appears the Whangarei Invitational XI had a point to prove after losing the last leg of the series, and posted a comfortable victory to establish their credentials, securing the win and an emphatic series victory - by three games to one - with five overs to spare.
The Far North team was taken south by FNCA head honcho, Peter Barnett. He said last week that many of the players were looking forward to the game, as much for the chance to capitalise on the confidence and optimism which had grown within the side during the series, as for the opportunity to play on Cobham Oval's international-quality grass wicket, and for the first time for many.
The match curtain-raised the Whangarei reserve grade final between Kamo Boys High and Maungakaramea.
