All has not been well in the paradise that is the beach at Ahipara over recent summers, and the Ahipara Komiti Takutaimoana has responded to those issues by producing and displaying posters.
The komiti hopes that education would be more effective than enforcement, given that many causes of complaint could be resolved by the application of common sense, spokesman Laurie Austen said.
The main concerns that the komiti had identified involved damage done by vehicles to wahi tapu, dunes, middens, and the beach itself, rubbish (including bottles and plastic) being left on the beach, and vehicles being driven into the tide or far out into the intertidal zone at low water around Tauroa (Reef Point).
"Noisy high-performance quads and trail bikes are a continual source of complaint, and appear totally out of context to the normally tranquil environs of the coast," Mr Austen added.
"The komiti wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year, and hopes everyone will show restraint in terms of kaimoana resources and respect for the takutaimoana that we all hold dear."
