Ngapuhi have once again demonstrated their prowess in ki-o-rahi.
A full Ngapuhi team, made up of a men's team and women's team, travelled to Turangi for the Tuwharetoa NZ National Nonoke (tackle) ki-o-rahi tournament held in Turangi on October 5.
Both teams won their tournaments. The men played Te Arawa, who were defending champions for the past two years. This year the champions were no match for Ngapuhi, who won 39-26.
The women played hosts Ngati Tuwharetoa and won easily 30-5, cementing them as champions again - for the third year running. This year one family - the Te Iringa family from Ahipara - made a big splash.
No less than five siblings played during the tournament.
