The Far North RSA completed its domestic championships titles earlier this month, with Freda May, Adele Gardner and Margaret Perry winning the women's titles and Marty Doak, Toto Thompson and Moss Hotere taking out the men's. Bowling conditions were not great with strong blustery winds all day but the second day saw nice, calm conditions.
There were five women's teams entered with runners-up Winnie Burkhardt, Reo King and Ada Dick (who went through to the second day with only one life) defeated comfortably by May's trio, retaining both lives in the process. The other team to progress to the Sunday were Liz Muru, Glenis Muir, Mavis Topia with one life.
Doak's trio emerged triumphant from the eight teams contesting the men's event, never allowing runners-up - and fellow one-lifers - Ian MacNee, Max Foster and Chris Topia into the deciding game. The other team to progress to the second day featured Russell Hockley Don Lilly and Dave Riddle.
Both of the winning teams won the right to contest their respective centre champion of champions events in March.
The FNRSA is now gearing up to host its Christmas Ham Tournament on December 16. Enquiries/ entries to Toto Thompson 408-2448 or Adele Gardner 408-0638.
