Three dogs that stand accused of attacking a man as he walked on Allen Bell Drive Kaitaia last week have been seized by the Far North District Council.
One of the dogs was surrendered to Animal Control officers last week, and the third was found at the same address yesterday morning.
No decision had been made as of yesterday regarding the dogs' fate, council communications manager Richard Edmondson saying Animal Control officers would speak to the victim again to establish what action he would like to be taken against their owner/s.
Animal Control officers had spoken to the victim on Wednesday last week, and had carried out house to house checks in the area in an effort to locate the dogs. They had photos of three that fitted the description given, but as of yesterday were still searching for a fourth, black one, that was thought to have instigated the attack. Mr Edmondson said there was some suspicion that it might have been taken out of the area.
The victim suffered bites to his lower back, legs and feet. He was treated by a general practitioner, but later that day his sister took him to Kaitaia Hospital where his wounds, some of which were still bleeding, were cleaned and dressed again.
