The metal dump on the intersection of State Highway 1 and Larmer Rd, just south of Kaitāia, is quite popular with people who want to get rid of their rubbish without paying for it, but those who availed themselves early on Friday morning went much too far for one local woman.
They were seen, albeit from a distance, as they unloaded the remains of a cow, leaving a trail of innards over the ground as they threw the head, hide, some of the entrails and one hoof in the general direction of long grass.
The outraged woman, who did not wish to be named, said she saw two men in dark clothing in a white, older-model SUV/CRV that was towing a trailer.
"When they left, they pulled out in front of a Fulton Hogan truck and trailer coming from the quarry and booted it back into town," she said.
"CCTV should have picked them up. The vehicle's left brake/tail light wasn't working, and the trailer didn't have lights.
