Mangonui School's Active Taonga pupils have been feeling sorry for their earthquake-affected counterparts in the South Island, some so badly shaken that they are reportedly frightened in their own homes, so they set out to cheer some of them up.
The children took it upon themselves to organise a 'bake day' on behalf of the pupils at Kaikoura Primary School, Chelsea Hoult passing the good news on to the principal.
'Hi Mr Easson,' she wrote.
'I heard there was an earthquake close to Kaikoura. I hope your school is all right and the buildings are not broken. I hope your students are OK. We've been fundraising to help your children feel a bit better. Could you please send us a bank account number.
'We raised $311.10 at our Bake Sale today.'
