Staff at Kaitaia's National Bank won't be staging the Daffodil Day baby photo competition they launched some two decades ago this year, but businesswoman Krystal-Rose Taaffe has stepped into the breech.

Bubba's Baby Store, on the corner of Commerce Street and Taaffe Street, is the new HQ, with proceeds going to Kaitaia's Far North Hospice.

"There isn't much time left until Daffodil Day (Friday August 30), so we're going to have to limit the entries and really get things moving," Krystal-Rose said yesterday.

The competition will launch on Tuesday, with Rachael Foster taking the photos at Bubba's Baby Store. Appointments will be made with her once parents have filled out the entry form at the shop, and paid the $15 entry fee ($5 going to Hospice, the rest covering the cost of the photos the babies will take home).

The format will follow the National Bank pattern, with the photos to be displayed in the shop window. Votes will also be accepted there, with three age groups - birth to six months, six to 12 months and 12 months to two years, with prizes for the most successful babies.

And as usual the Northland Age will publish every photo before Daffodil Day.

"I'm really getting excited about this," Krystal-Rose added.

"We've had a really generous response from the business community so there will be some good prizes, and every baby will be helping a really good cause."

If all goes to plan the first photos will be published in next Thursday's Age.
