Dawn Pearce is hoping to have her lounge back after Saturday's market at the Fairburn Kaiaka Hall.

Dawn Pearce is hoping to have her lounge back after Saturday's market at the Fairburn Kaiaka Hall.

Kaitaia woman Dawn Pearce knows how to raise money.

She's been doing it for all sorts of causes for more years than she would care to remember, but her efforts on behalf of the Samaritans in Kaitaia have struck a small snag.

Mrs Pearce has been selling all sorts of stuff from a location that is no longer available, so she and her fundraising efforts are currently homeless. That's where the Fairburn Kaiaka Community Hall comes in.

"We're having a market day on Sunday, from 10am to around 3pm, as a fundraiser for the Samaritans," hall chairman Peter Niepel said. "They help people in need of food parcels and with other problems, and now we would like to help them.

"Dawn currently has nowhere to sell from, and her house is so full of boxes, crates and clothes racks that she can't move any more, so we're going to help her get rid of some of it.

"Dawn does this on a voluntary basis - it will be a 100 per cent fundraiser. There will be toys, heaps of clothes, some small furniture, household goods and much, much more. Come and get a bargain. Prices will be extremely low.

"And if you happen to know of any available space in town that Dawn could use please contact us. I know many people miss her shop."

The market would be open to all who wished to set up a stall without a fee, Mr Niepel said. Anyone who would like a space could contact him on (09) 408-0110.

"Maybe you want to clean out the garage or need to get rid of some children's toys etc.

Let me know if you are interested and I will book you in," he said. "We will also be selling delicious local Snagman sausages from the barbecue - the perfect lunch."
