BETTER TO GIVE: Bree McGlashan, who made a little boy's day on Saturday.

BETTER TO GIVE: Bree McGlashan, who made a little boy's day on Saturday.

The crowd had dwindled a little by early afternoon, but it was a lovely spring day and those who had set up stalls for the art and craft fair in Kaitaia's Remembrance Park on Saturday were enjoying the sun.

Among them was 11-year-old Bree McGlashan, who might have enjoyed herself more if she hadn't been hobbling around on crutches, the aftermath of a fall while playing soccer, but she had every reason to be pleased with herself.

She came in for high praise from her elders at the Far North Quilters' stall after she watched a small boy give up hope of buying a $2 Christmas decoration that was beyond his means, then bought it for him.

Bree, who despite her young age is an active patchworker, found a bargain of her own at the fair in the form of a small dinosaur.
