Kerikeri-based charity the Bald Angels Charitable Trust won the 2017 Trustpower Far North Community Award Community Award at Te Ahu on Tuesday night.
Therese Wickbom, who founded the trust five years ago, and Inky Vink were there to accept the award from Mayor John Carter, after winning the health and wellbeing category earlier in the evening.
Trustpower community relations representative Abbie Siely said the awards, which recognised the Far North's "good sorts," reaffirmed the district's reputation for producing innovative and effective community groups, the Bald Angels standing out with its multi-faceted approach to community care.
"Bald Angels contributes to the wellbeing of more than 200 families and 1000 (Mid North) children every year through fundraising events that bring the community together in the spirit of generosity and goodwill," she said.
The trust worked in the background to support coal face agencies like Corrections, the police, Plunket, Women's Refuge, St John, the Fire Service and more, serving as a conduit between members of the public who have a desire to help others and the organisations that encounter hardship and trauma on a daily basis.
