Pamapuria Playcentre has been relicensed and has the tick from the Education Review Office. Now all it needs is children.
The playcentre, which has re-emerged from recess, was well equipped and set up to provide excellent opportunities for children's learning, but was in need of families to keep it open, former playcentre member Sandra Kitchen said.
Having enjoyed a long association with the centre, she was happy to take on the roles of supervisor and administrator. That was the least she could do to honour the hard work of the parents who had established such a wonderful facility. It wasn't going to work without parents who wanted to spend one or two mornings each week playing with their children, she said.
"Paid work outside the home has taken its toll on busy mothers and it seems the commitment to manage and run playcentres has scared some parents away," she said. A small group of parents and supporters had worked above and beyond expectations to leave the centre in an excellent position for the enjoyment of children and their families.
There was the one weekly session, 9.30-noon on Thursdays, but a second could be provided if there was sufficient interest.
