All she wants for Christmas...

GENEROUS SPIRIT: Seven-year-old Vera-Leanne Tau didn't seem entirely at ease when she fronted up to Santa at Te Ahu in Kaitaia yesterday, but she knew what she wanted for Christmas - for "the kids" not to starve and to have enough food. Others weren't quite so magnanimous, putting in orders for bikes, chocolates, and particularly popular, tablets, some children even providing Santa with the desired brand, dimensions and other details. No one these days, it seems, wants two front teeth. PETRINA HODGSON
