Ahipara brothers Sergio and Kalani Hansen have been named as the Far North representatives in 2014 Northland team to compete at the 2014 Surfing New Zealand National Scholastics Surfing Championships in Taranaki later this year.
They are natural footers Sergio and Kalani Hansen who will represent the province in the under 18 and 16 boys divisions respectively. In naming the team last week, Northland team manager Tony Baker noted the selection was based on 2014 NSSS Series Results, SNZ Junior Series rankings and also took into consideration involvement and experience in surfing at a regional and national level.
The Hansens' ratings at the completion of the three comp series saw Sergio place third overall in the U18s and Kalani 1st in the U16 division. s
The full team named is, BOYS, Under 18: Zane Hicks (WBHS), Sergio Hansen (Kaitaia College), Matt McGregor (Kamo High School), Matt Jensen (Bream Bay College); U16: Kalani Hansen (Kaitaia College), Jamahl Moselen (WBHS), Kohl Mase (Pompellier Catholic College); U14: Tom Norton (Bream Bay College), Luca Mase (Pompellier Catholic College), Joseph Critchhfield (Rodney College). GIRLS, U16: Billie Scott (WGHS), Rhiannon Fyfe (WGHS), with travelling reserve: Emily Brunker (WGHS).
