If 'ooohs' and 'aaahs' are any guide, the Mangonui Fire Brigade's Guy Fawkes' Night fireworks display was a great success. A sausage sizzle, drinks, glow sticks and a coffee cart contributed to the attractions, but it was the fireworks that were responsible for cheers and bouts of applause, Danielle Collings saying the pyrotechnics lasted for a "solid" 13 minutes.
"It was a great atmosphere with children running around with glow sticks, laughter and the warm glow from the bonfire," she added.
Sheryl Bainbridge reckoned the show was "nothing short of spectacular," a "stunning series of colourful fireworks that kept the awed crowd gazing skyward."
The brigade and its sponsors had provided a wonderful opportunity for the community, including families on restricted incomes with young children, to be entertained free of charge at a safe venue, she said, adding her congratulations to the brigade members for giving up their time to ensure such a successful evening.
