Whangarei golfer Kadin Neho gave the Northland selectors little choice but to include him in the interprovincial side after winning all three of his Garrard Shield matches at the Waitangi Golf Club.
The 14-year-old is the youngest golfer named in the Northland team but selector Jack Winwood said he had a big future ahead of him.
"We couldn't leave out Kadin, he's the youngest member of our team and probably the youngest player ever to make the senior team, he's a great talent for Northland and he'll be a talent in the future for New Zealand as well," he said.
Despite his tender years, Neho has been in great form this season. In October he won the Busby Plate, Northland's premier matchplay title, in sensational fashion beating Brett Dormer on the 19th hole with a birdie after teeing off on the 17th two down.
Over the weekend playing at No7 for Northland, Neho was far too strong for his opponents.
"He had three very big wins, he's won on the 14th or 15th green in every match, so he didn't leave us much choice," Winwood said.
The Northland team at the Toro Men's Interprovincials at Paraparaumu Beach next month will have a very young line-up with Kaitaia 16-year-old Sean Masters also slipping into the reserve's position in the team, ahead of Northland Golf Club's Michael McDonald, who played at No 5 in the Garrard Shield.
The three players were in a contest for two spots in the six-strong team, with Masters getting the nod ahead of an unlucky McDonald.
"While Kadin picked himself, Sean has never lost for Northland at the junior level and has played well in the trials. This weekend, he stepped up to the seniors for the first time and as he plays off scratch, it's hard to overlook him," he said.
Winwood has plumped for form over experience in his selections but said the young players were far from greenhorns.
"Both these guys have a lot of experience at the junior level - they've both been in the junior team for a few years - last year Sean made the senior team for the Garrard Shield," he said.
Scott Wightmann will lead the team at number-one after returning to play for Northland this year, with the ever-consistent Brad Bonnington dropping back one spot to number-two.
Kaitaia's Brett Dormer also drops one place from last season into three, while last year's reserve 18-year-old Lee Neumann, progresses up the playing order into No 4 after also impressing the selectors.
Neho will debut at the top amateur team tournament of the year at No 5, while Masters will be the travelling reserve.
