Northland have been boosted for their one-day match against Hamilton tomorrow , with the return of batsmen Ben Hyde and Henry Cooper.
The pair were absent from the Northland line-up that played Counties Manukau last Sunday, as they were in Christchurch contesting the national under-18 tournament with Northern Districts.
Cooper, 17, and 18-year- old Hyde's consistent performances with the bat throughout the 11-day tournament helped their side to a second place behind Auckland, and earned them a place in the New Zealand Under-19 20-man squad to train for next year's Junior World Cup in Darwin. The Northland pair were two of five Northern Districts Under-18 players named in the training squad.
Whangarei Boys' High School First XI batsman Hyde said he had not anticipated the good news.
"I've worked hard this season and was trying hard for this but I never expected to get this far," he said.
Throughout the under-18 national tournament which consisted of a three-day match, three one-day matches and three Twenty20 games, Hyde notched up three 50s including a 70, which he was satisfied with.
Meanwhile, his WBHS teammate Cooper, also hit some good scores, and lent a hand with the bowling as well.
Hyde said they did not have much information at this stage about their training schedule, except for they would have camps later this year and early next year with coaches Matt Horne and Paul Wiseman, so they could narrow their selection to pick a side for the World Cup in July 2012.
Players would also be given personal performance plans to carry out.
Northland coach Ewen Thompson said the duo should give his visiting side a bit more batting depth against heavyweights Hamilton, on their home turf at Galloway Park.
Last Sunday's one-day match against Counties Manukau was a disappointing one for Northland at Cobham Oval. Counties Manukau made 151 on a slow wicket, and then had Northland out for 137, with the top order struggling to get anything going with the bat.
Rory Darkins also makes his way back into the playing 12 to travel to Hamilton, while Thompson, Matt Taylor and Nic Breslin make way for the three changes and are not in tomorrow's line up.
Northland team to play Hamilton tomorrow: Richard Atkins, Rhys Farrand, Ben Williams, Henry Cooper, Ben Hyde, Curtis Cherrington, Rory Darkins, Taz Saati, Jake Phillips (c), Chris Page, Ian Page, Bradley Kneebone.
