A ton from Kaipara Flats' Brad Wilson helped his side to a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Whangarei Boys' High, and shifted them up the two-day competition points table.
Wilson, a right-hand batsman, opened for the host side in the reduced 55-over match on Saturday, after rain cancelled the first day of round four last weekend, and spent the innings chipping away at the target of 173 the schoolboys had set earlier.
During the schoolboys' innings, Henry Cooper topscored with 73, while skipper Rory Darkins made 41 and Todd Beehre hit 25, but the rest of the order were dismissed for single figures, thanks to the bowling of Tauseef Satti and Jake Phillips, along with smart fielding from the Kaipara side.
It was a long day at the crease for Wilson, who cracked a hundred (104 not out), with Boys' High professional Richard Kaufman the only bowler to take any Kaipara wickets.
In his 14 overs, he bowled Daren Standen for 15 and dismissed Northern Districts skipper James Marshall for 30. Marshall and several ND players made the trip north to play for their respective clubs after being ousted from the HRV Twenty20 Cup competition by Central Districts last week.
Michael O'Flaherty was the other contributor for Kaipara, making 23 not out.
The victory saw Kaipara overtake the schoolboys on the ladder and move into second place, behind Onerahi Central. Kaipara will be pulling out all the stops to get the edge over the table leaders when they meet in a top of the table clash in the final round on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Onerahi maintained their lead in the championship, despite losing to Maungakaramea. Michael Parlane smacked a century and a classy bowling display, gave Maungakaramea a seven-wicket win over the current leaders in another reduced 55-over match.
Onerahi batted first at Maungakaramea Domain, and were all out for 149 after Finley Brooker captured five wickets during his 13 overs, while the other wickets were shared around.
Parlane opened the batting for the host side, and went onto make 102, hitting a 18 fours during his 28.3 overs. The hosts were too dominant for Onerahi and easily won making 150 with only three wickets lost.
At Cobham Oval, the match between Kamo and City was the only game to go for two days. Kamo batted first to make 163 all out last week, and City began their chase with skipper Bert Horner getting off to a solid start.
Horner resumed batting on Saturday and was finally stumped by Dean Williams off a ball bowled by Kamo captain Jamie Millar, for an outstanding 123.
Some high scoring from Kurt Wilson (52), Chris Page (38) and Joey Yovich (22 not out), saw City declare their innings closed at 267-6.
In their second innings, Kamo made 145, but City quickly racked up another 42 runs to take the game with eight wickets to spare.
Points after round four (bonus points to be added): 1 Onerahi Central 44.47, 2 Kaipara Flats 37.94, 3 Whangarei Boy's High 1st XI 34.65, 4 Maungakaramea 30.80, 5 City 16.49, 6 Kamo 14.09.
