Kaipara Flats Brad Wilson took his selection in the New Zealand A cricket squad for the emerging players tournament in Australia, as a sign to push his claims for higher honours this summer.
The Northern Knights right-hand batsman was impressive last season in all forms of the game, and while he only averaged 11 in the one dayers, he averaged 48 in the four dayers and produced several early season tons for his provincial side.
"I guess my one day average needs addressing and improving but overall I was very happy with what I achieved last season," he said.
This year is Wilson's first time to be selected in the 15-strong squad, and the 26-year-old is aiming for a successful tournament in Brisbane during August, following the team's winter training camp at the Sunshine Coast next month.
Wilson will head Down Under after finishing a season in Holland. He is currently there playing for HBS Den Haag, situated 40 minutes south of Amsterdam.
"I ended up playing in Holland as Anton Devcich [Northern Knights] could not return to his club and they needed someone else, so I came on board. We are having an average season sitting in the bottom half of the table but it is an okay gig. I haven't done much travel really just been to Amsterdam for a look around. I'm pretty useless when it comes to that sort of thing," he said.
Following August's tournament, Wilson will return to New Zealand and start his build up for next season's Northern Knights 2011-2012 campaign where he said hopefully, the team can pick up a bit of silverware.
The Kaipara Flats Club member rates NZA's chances at the tournament, where the Kiwis will line up against the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), and emerging cricket teams of South Africa and India.
"I think if the guys play to their potential we should have a very strong chance," Wilson said.
New Zealand A squad: Graeme Aldridge, Todd Astle, Trent Boult, Doug Bracewell, Neil Broom, Dean Brownlie, Derek de Boorder, Daniel Flynn, Anaru Kitchen, Bruce Martin, Andy McKay, BJ Watling, Ben Wheeler, Brad Wilson and Luke Woodcock.
