Cyclists battled Parahaki's tough terrain as they contested the annual Northland Secondary Schools Mountain Biking Championships.
Around 50 junior and senior competitors rode at Tuesday's championships in both the cross country and downhill events.
Whangarei Boys' High School's Harley Going hurtled around the five-lap course to win senior boys cross country, well clear of the rest of the field in a time of 42m 32s, along with winning the downhill in 1m 32.76s.
Kerikeri High School's Olivia Wadman won the senior girls cross country in 1h 4m 20s but Zia Pitkethley of Tauraroa Area School was too fast in the downhill, beating Wadman by 15s.
Results were spread around the junior boys division, with Daniel Jepson, also from Tauraroa Area School, collecting first in the three-lap cross country course in a time of 29m 30s, while schoolmate Michael Lea won the downhill race in 1m 39s.
Whangarei Girls' High School student Taylor Going claimed the junior girls downhill race in 2m 12s, while Kerikeri's Rachel Martin was strong in the cross country, winning in a time of 35m 02s.
