TARTAN AT THE RACES is part of the Whangarei Racing Club's first Saturday in July race meeting.
Tomorrow's meeting has been themed to coincide with International Tartan Day and fits around The Tartan Event week held at Waipu each year.
Haggis and whiskey tasting and plenty of pipe music will herald the first race at 11am.
All racegoers are encouraged to wear "anything tartan" and the tartan police will be about with spot prizes for young and old.
A very strong contingent of horses from the Dean and Donna Logan stables should make an impact on the day's racing with the stable having entries in all but one of the 10 races.
One of these starters is a 3-year-old brown filly from Celtic Swing, a mare that had been raced and later bred from by a syndicate made up of Gary Cossey, racing journalist and current manager of New Zealand's rising star jockey James MacDonald, Gail Williams and Ray Rokela from Dargaville who have raced numerous other horses with the Logan stable, and David Woodward, a former employee of Logan Stables, and a past secretary for the Whangarei Racing Club.
Donna Logan doubled as trainer and part owner.
The same syndicate owns and races the daughter of Celtic Swing by Black Minnaloushe under the name Tart 'N' Tartan.
Tomorrow will be the ninth start of her career, having already amassed two wins from her last two starts - one at Ellerslie and the other at Dargaville - with convincing winning margins of 4 and 6 lengths.
The filly's appearance at Ruakaka at the Whangarei Racing Club's Tartan at the Races raceday certainly suggests she is the omen bet of the day.
Superstitious punters should consider a dollar or two on her.
