Semenoff Transport Fideliter 1 and WGHS 1 fought out a fast and close encounter in the Whangarei Netball premier grade on Saturday, which saw the Dykzeul Trophy back in Fideliter 1's silverware cabinet.
Fideliter 1 also cemented itself as a team of note in the 2011 Premier competition with their 47 to 42 win.
Fideliter coach Carol McClintock said Kelly Middleton on defence did some great work, and with Helen Francis they presented as a formidable tall defensive line up.
The pair combined well with Lara Tipene, who was dynamic at centre, through to Nicky Taylor, at goal shoot.
McClintock made some unorthodox changes with some players playing out of position but this was to cover illness and injury in the team.
WGHS coach Dee Telfer felt Jacinta Matson at wing attack then centre applied good speed through the court.
Also, shooter Alanah Vinson had a much stronger game and got some good ball and shots in. Telfer also said that on defence Rose Baker, who came on for the injured Jade Telfer, applied good pressure on the Fideliter shooters.
The schoolgirls will get a point for being within five goals.
In the other games, Onerahi 1 also continued its dominance with a good solid 65-44 win over Takahiwai 1.
The game was initially close with Onerahi 1 starting slowly, but they soon gained momentum and strength.
Onerahi 1 coach Colleen Glass said that overall the team played well but, in particular, Sue Ann David, on defence, got some good two-handed ball through tips and Tracey Whittaker, in mid-court, did some great driving and attacking play to be finished off by Althena Birch, who played an accurate shooting game, including some long shots.
The 58-33 winning margin by Old Boys 1 over Onerahi 2 should not have been as big but with a really strong quarter by Old Boys and a complete breakdown by Onerahi 2 in the third quarter, in which the former managed 18 consecutive goals, decided the outcome.
Onerahi 2 started strongly and managed to win the second quarter, albeit by a goal.
They also recovered sufficiently in the final third to just lose this by four goals. However, the damage was done.
Manawanui continued its improved performance with a 60-to-36 win over the youthful Pizza Barn BBC Waipu.
Manawanui's Gail Shepherd had a strong game in defence and attack and she, with Revena Otene, provided guidance to the younger players in the team.
Melanie Leef, in defence, was a nuisance for the BBC Waipu Shooters by slowing the game down, getting plenty of tips and forcing her opponents to shoot from out wide.
In the middle quarter, when Judith Campbell combined with Gladys Himiona in the shooting circle, they proved a strong combination, with Himiona doing some quick and deceptive feeding into Campbell.
BBC Waipu coach Toni Power said the whole team gave 100 per cent and it was a combined effort for 60 minutes, with some fast and rapid interplay. Moengaroa Kailahi was tireless on defence and Kelsey Power at centre with Siobhan Hayward at wing attack feeding the circle with patience and maturity - they also did some good attacking drives through court.
However, Powers said, the standout player was Jess Cole at shooter, with her strong attacking movements and her accurate shooting, especially from out wide.
