It's all a big mistake.
Honestly, I had no intention of running in the Fullers Kerikeri half marathon on November 21.
Well I did, except that I mistakenly thought that there was a 10km "fun run" section.
I was wrong - there's only a 21km section.
Now, I'm not built for running long distances. I'm what multisporters call a draughthorse - 100kg-plus.
So why do it?
In my case, it's a weird reaction to turning 40 earlier this year.
I started jogging. Quite slowly, but jogging nonetheless. I have built up to 10km once a week.
And this was the catalyst for deciding to enter the imaginary 10km section in the Kerikeri half marathon.
I t's not all about me. Over the coming weeks you're going to meet Team Advocate.
We are: Craig Cooper (editor), Ana Craig (account manager), Mike Cunningham (photographer) Michelle Curran (sports reporter), Michelle Douglas (ad services), Anita Johnson (account manager), Kerri Laurie (sales co-ordinator), Alex Lawson (general manager), Peter Thorley (sports reporter), Dylan Thorne (chief reporter) and Rob Ward (graphic artist).
We're not just doing it for fun - we're raising money for a yet-to-be announced charity, but I can assure you it is a good cause.
And any good team needs a coach. That's where Jon Renes of Fitness Plus comes in. Jon has trained athletes including rugby league professionals and world class triathletes. He ran us through our first team training this week. And we were delighted to discover he is of a persistent, calm, encouraging nature, and is not a closet drill sergeant.
You'll learn more about Jon, too, as the road to Kerikeri nears.
There's 140 days to go.
Some of us will run, some of us will walk, one or two might crawl - but we're determined to do it.
We're doing a runner for charity!
