Telea Kask, Reece Bermingham and Deanne Carpenter are hoping Shane Cameron can buck the odds and defeat David Tua in tonight's heavyweight boxing bout.
The trio have been training with Cameron's trainer Lolo Heimuli and Commonwealth Games medallist Danny Codling in Auckland recently and have been selected by the Auckland Boxing Association to attend the nationals at the Energy Events Centre in Rotorua next week.
The trio, who represent the Oakura Boxing Gym and the United Boxing Gym, have to box for Auckland to attend the nationals because it is the nearest regional association to Whangarei.
They will attend a squad training workshop in Auckland on Monday and Tuesday before travelling to Rotorua on Wednesday. They can expect to fight one bout on Thursday and another on Friday before hopefully reaching the finals on Saturday.
