Whangarei's Max Trimble has joined a select few Northlanders in being the first from the region since 1996 to be named as part of a New Zealand squash team.
Trimble has come out the other end of an 18-month selection process to be named part of the New Zealand Junior Boys' squash team to travel to Namibia in August, following in Phillip Anderson's shoes who travelled to Egypt for New Zealand.
The 17-year-old all-round sportsman has been part of the squad since 2012. The squad was slowly whittled down from an initial group of 10 to the four who will comprise the team.
Trimble is the only member from Northland in the team, which was named at the conclusion of the New Zealand International Classic and North Island Championships in Palmerston North two weeks ago. He is joined by Scott Galloway, Luke Jones, Chapman Kutia and Sion Wiggin, who was named as the non-travelling reserve.
The World Junior Championships will be held from August 10-21. For more information on the event, go to www.wsfworldjuniors.com
