Only two weeks after claiming victory in the Auckland Half Ironman, Whangarei's Katherine Anton was back in action at the 2009 Professionals Kumara Triathlon at Kai Iwi Lakes, racking up another win in the open women's division.
Anton's winning time of 1hr 34min 23sec put her well in front of second-placed Hayley Goold (1hr 48min 03sec) and Lucy Cullen, in third with 1hr 50min 40sec. Anton is in the midst of preparing for the World Duathlon Championships in the United States during September.
She is hoping to peak at the national selection race for the event, in Christchurch in six weeks.
Her form of late has been impressive - having won the Mangawhai Triathlon earlier in the year, along with the longer-distance half ironman event at Maraetai, in Auckland.
Anton completed Saturday's 700m swim in the lake and 20km cycle comfortably, and showed her versatility on the run, which is off-road for the first half of the 8.2km distance.
Another rising star on the multisport scene, Elliot Frizelle of Whangarei, won the open men's event with ease, in a winning time of 1hr 23min 25sec.
Timothy Riddell headed Dylan French home for second place 17 minutes later.
The 24th anniversary of the Kumara Tri - staged at Kai Iwi Lakes for the past three years - attracted 180 competitors.
Other winners were: Shona Fogden and Wayne Hodgetts in the women's and men's open kayak; Romahn Howard took out the men's short course event, while Robyn Turnbull claimed the women's shortcourse division.
John Kent won the 50+ men's triathlon and Jane Sweeney was first through for the women.
Drew Cumming and Heather Lupton took out the 40+ men's and women's sections respectively.
And in the teams events, the Collywobbles won the open team kayak, AK's team won the short course triathlon, and Three Old Farts won the longcourse event.
