The Northern Swords Premiers had another heavy loss in the second round of New Zealand Rugby League's National Competition, going down 82-0 to the South Island Scorpions.

Sunday's match at Denton Park in Hornby, was the Swords first away game of the representative season.

The hosts proved too strong for the Swords who struggled against the bigger and faster side, and were playing catchup football from the get-go.

After leading the Swords 34-0 at halftime, the South Island team ran the Swords ragged and kept them scoreless for 80 minutes.

Meanwhile, the Northern Swords 17s also lost 44-18. Trailing 28-6 at halftime, the Swords fought back in the second spell, trying to stay in touch with their South Island counterparts..

Hararei Te Whata scored a double for the Swords, while Tonto Martin scored one, and Shae Currie kicked two goals.

Sunday, all three Northern Swords teams play Wellington teams at Lindvart Park in Kaikohe, for round three of the National Competition.
