Kamo Intermediate swimmers Ellie Eastwood and Callum Prime have starred for their school at the 2012 NZ Aims Games in Tauranga, both coming home with two medals each.
Eastwood competed in the girls 10/11 years age group and won gold in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:24.79 and silver in the 50m breaststroke in a time of 38.11. She narrowly missed out on a medal in the 200m freestyle, finishing fourth.
Prime won bronze medals in the boys 12/13 age group in both the 50m backstroke (32.01) and the 200m backstroke (2:25.31). He was fourth in the 50m breaststroke and was unlucky not to claim silver in the 100m backstroke after he was unexpectedly disqualified.
After competing in the swimming events, Eastwood joined the Kamo Intermediate girls First Eleven hockey team for the rest of the week and proceeded to win her second gold medal in a different sport. The Kamo girls easily won the tournament from 23 other teams, scoring 48 goals in the process while keeping their seven opponents scoreless at the other end.
The Kamo team was so dominant they won the final against defending champions Otumoetai 5-0 after leading just 1-0 at halftime.
